“Crocodile Rock” Family Halloween Costume

GAAAAHHHHH! I’m so excited to show you this little family costume I’ve been dreaming of for months! It all started earlier this year when I bought these toddler daisy sunnies. 

Not only does Lola look adorable in them, but my other first thought was that with her strawberry gold hair color she kind of looked like a Baby Elton John and it made me laugh so hard.

A few months later when I started Halloween costume planning, I realized that I already had the perfect idea under my nose, so I set out to make her the best Baby EJ costume a toddler could dream of.

Since this is a family affair, I thought making it a “Crocodile Rock” theme would be fun since Lola likes to dance to that song and it gave costume options for Todd and me as well.

If I had more time, I may have tried to make myself a red baby grand piano, but, hey, I’m a busy mom, so a simple keyboard costume seemed right!

And Todd’s costume is basically a onesie, so his crocodile suit is as comfy as can be (although his thoughtful personal review is that it is hot, but it was 85° that day—not usually trick-or-treating temps!).

For Lola’s costume, I basically bought a white toddler suit, glued sequins to the jacket and shirt collar, and hot glued lines of feather trim, loose feathers, pearls, and white satin string onto white shoulder pads that I glued on top the suit shoulders to recreate this look.

I could have used the regular trousers that came with the suit, buuuuut I used these bell bottoms instead to take it up a notch. I mean, if you are going to do a Baby Elton John costume, you should take it up all the notches, don’t you think? But what’s a Baby EJ costume without the right glasses?

Not good enough! We also borrowed these amazing sunnies from Nova for the shoot (similar ones here), and they were just what we needed. My heart basically stopped when I saw her in her full look—it’s juuuuuuust toooooo muuuuuuuch!

Even though her look feels elaborate, it’s just some hot glued trim pieces onto shoulder pads and some sequin attaching, so it really was a snap to make. This one is going in her scrapbook for sure! xo. Laura
