If you’ve never had them before, they are simply hard boiled eggs cut in half and the yolks are mixed with mayo, dijon, and vinegar; then piped or spooned back into the egg half.

They look fancy, but are truly very easy to make.

I absolutely love this classic deviled egg recipe, but I also thought it might be fun to share a couple different variations of this delicious snack just in case your Easter celebration leaves you with a bunch of hard boiled eggs you need to use up.

Classic Deviled Egg Ingredients:

  • Hard boiled eggs
  • Mayo
  • Dijon mustard
  • Vinegar
  • Paprika
  • Salt and pepper

How Long to Boil Eggs:

To make hard boiled eggs, simply add eggs to pot and cover with enough water that all the eggs are submerged. Bring this to a boil. Then turn off the heat and cover the pot for 12 minutes. Afterwards, drain the water.

Once the eggs are cool enough to touch, peel the shells off.

You can also hard boil eggs in the oven.

Directions:

Cut the hard boiled eggs in half, lengthwise. Remove the yolks, reserving in a medium mixing bowl.

In the mixing bowl, add the mayo, dijon, and vinegar. Mix well to combine. I sometimes use an immersion blender or small food processor to puree until smooth. Taste and add a little salt and pepper as needed.

Pipe the yolk mixture back into the egg white halves. You can also simply spoon it into the halves, but I like the look of the piping. Sprinkle paprika over the tops.

Variations:

Swap the dijon for yellow mustard and add a little turmeric and ginger for a flavorful and spicy deviled egg variation.

Add feta cheese and dill for a Greek-inspired deviled egg option.

Whatever version you make, just be sure NOT to serve them side by side with these deviled egg jello shots. (!!!!!!) That could result in some very mixed reviews. Enjoy! xo. Emma

Egg Salad Recipes https://abeautifulmess.com/egg-salad-recipes/ https://abeautifulmess.com/egg-salad-recipes/#comments Tue, 04 Apr 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://abeautifulmess.com/?p=108124 Just in case you are about to have a bunch of hard boiled (Easter) eggs at your house soon, I thought I would share my all-time favorite egg salad recipe.

I most often make this classic egg salad, but I’ll also share a few ways to modify this for other flavorful options.

And while I truly love these egg salad recipes, if you are looking for more tea house-inspired food, I recommend this chicken salad and deli-style tuna salad.

Just serve any of these on a warm croissant with a hot cup of tea and you’ll be feeling like you’re at your favorite grandma’s tea house (high compliment, I promise!) in no time.

Egg Salad Ingredients:

  • Hard boiled eggs
  • Mayo
  • Dijon mustard
  • Dill
  • Chives
  • Cayenne
  • Salt & pepper

If you can’t find chives, you can substitute green onion or even skip it if needed.

Directions:

To hard boil eggs, simply add the eggs to a pot with enough water to cover them. Bring to a roiling boil, then turn the heat off and add the lid to the pot.

After 12 minutes, drain the water and once the eggs are cool enough to handle peel the shells off.

And here’s how to hard boil eggs in the oven.

In a food processor, pulse the eggs a few times so they are very finely chopped. You can do this by hand, but I like the texture the food processor creates—plus, it’s faster.

Add the chopped eggs to a medium size bowl. Then, add the mayo, dijon, chopped dill, chopped chives, and cayenne. Stir together. Taste and add salt and pepper as needed.

Egg Salad Variations:

These are ingredients you can substitute for the dill and chives to change up the flavor.

  • Try turmeric, ginger, and go heavier on the black pepper.
  • Try rosemary and thyme in place of the dill and chives.
  • Try sliced black and green olive with some feta cheese for a Greek-inspired egg salad.

Bird’s Nest Cookies – No-Bake https://abeautifulmess.com/birds-nest-cookies-no-bake/ https://abeautifulmess.com/birds-nest-cookies-no-bake/#comments Thu, 30 Mar 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://abeautifulmess.com/?p=107518 These classic bird’s nest cookies are a dessert I most often associate with Easter, but it’s a fun one for anytime in the spring to celebrate the changing of the seasons.

If you’ve never had bird’s nest cookies before, they are crunchy chocolate and peanut butter no-bake treats that get topped with candy eggs.

While they are usually referred to as cookies, I think of them as homemade candy like peanut brittle or buckeyes for the holidays.

Related: Want more no-bake treats? Check out 30+ Easy No-Bake Desserts.

You can use any kind of candy eggs, or candy that looks like eggs. Think Cadbury mini eggs, whoppers, M&Ms, or you could use jelly beans if you want something less crunchy. The hard shell candies aren’t always a good option for younger children.

Directions:

Melt the chocolate chips and peanut butter. You can do this on the stovetop, a double boiler, or in the microwave. I usually do it in the microwave, as it’s faster. To do this, microwave in 30-second increments, stirring between. It will probably take 1 to 1.5 minutes.

Add the chow mein noodles to the melted chocolate and stir to coat them all. Then spoon the mixture onto a surface covered with parchment paper or wax paper. Use the bottom of a tablespoon to create a bowl for the nest. Then add 2-3 candy eggs.

Allow the melted chocolate to set/harden. If you want to speed up this process, you can pop the cookies in the refrigerator.

Tips & Substitutions

  • If you can’t find chow mein noodles, you can use shredded wheat cereal. Gently crush/pull apart the pieces before adding to the melted chocolate and forming the nests. Another option is toasted coconut flakes.
  • You can use milk, dark, or semi-sweet chocolate chips depending on what flavor you prefer.
  • If you plan to pop these in the refrigerator to help them set faster, form them on a cutting board or large plate with parchment or wax paper so you can easily move them to the refrigerator.
  • Bird’s nest cookies do not need to be refrigerated after they have set, but do keep in mind they are made of chocolate and they can melt if they get too warm.

Other No-Bake Desserts:

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I use instead of chow mein for bird’s nest cookies?

Shredded wheat cereal, toasted coconut flakes, or even Rice Krispie cereal can be used instead of chow mein noodles.

What can I use instead of peanut butter in bird’s nest cookies?

Almond butter or butterscotch chips can be used instead.

What cookies should I make for Easter?

Bird’s nest cookies, sugar cookies with royal icing, thumbprint cookies, and slice and bake cookie designs are all popular for Easter as they can be customized for the season.

Carrot-Shaped Pastries https://abeautifulmess.com/carrot-shaped-pastries/ https://abeautifulmess.com/carrot-shaped-pastries/#comments Thu, 07 Apr 2022 13:10:00 +0000 https://abeautifulmess.com/?p=86644 Easter may not be a big event at my house, but I do love celebrating the seasons! I really struggled with what to call these carrot-shaped pastries.

I thought about “carrot-shaped dessert idea” or maybe “crescent roll carrots” but this is where I’ve landed, I guess.

These are a fun and SUPER easy dessert you can make to celebrate spring or Easter with lots of different filling ideas, including what I used.

Related: Bird’s Nest Cookies – No-Bake

carrot-shaped pastries on plate

Depending what you fill these with, I could see this being a fun dessert you could serve at the end of a meal, or a breakfast pastry, or a party snack on its own or served alongside other sweets.

carrot-shaped pastries

I tried a bit of an experiment as I worked on this recipe. I tried making these carrot-shaped pastries from three different kinds of store-bought crusts. Here are the results.

carrot-shaped pastries with foil on wire rack

Crescent Rolls

By far, crescent roll dough was the easiest to work with. No thawing necessary, and the dough can be easily shaped and baked quickly. Crescent rolls are also versatile in that they could be filled with either a sweet or savory filling.

Puff Pastry

The next best option is puff pastry. Frozen puff pastry will need to thaw before you can shape it and bake it, but I prefer the taste of puff pastry to crescent rolls (so I think it’s worth the extra effort).

You will want to take more care when shaping the carrots to ensure the seams are pressed together well, or they can puff out when baking (see the above photo).

Phyllo Crust

I also tried frozen phyllo crust. And although it did technically work (it did hold the cone shape and baked fully), it wasn’t the best option for these, so I don’t recommend it.

carrot-shaped pastries with foil on wire rack

To make these, you simply create cones from aluminum foil (it can be mostly hollow), spray with non- stick cooking spray, and then shape your dough around them.

Brush with an egg wash and then bake according to the package directions (puff pastry will take longer to bake than crescent rolls).

bowl of banana pudding

I used one package of banana pudding and then folded in one and a half cups of Cool Whip to make the filling for these. Then, I garnished with a mint sprig for the carrot top look.

You could use all sorts of other fillings like other puddings, no bake cheesecake filling, pastry creams (store bought or homemade), chopped fruit with a layer of Nutella (or other dessert spreads), or you could try a savory filling such as homemade French onion dip.

carrot-shaped pastries

If you choose to use a savory filling, I would consider switching the top garnish from mint to parsley or maybe even cilantro.

These carrot-shaped pastries are fun to make and even more fun to eat. Happy spring! xo. Emma

Marbled Easter Basket Name Tag (with Air-Dry Clay!) https://abeautifulmess.com/marbled-easter-basket-name-tag-with-air-dry-clay/ https://abeautifulmess.com/marbled-easter-basket-name-tag-with-air-dry-clay/#respond Sat, 02 Apr 2022 13:00:00 +0000 https://abeautifulmess.com/?p=86441 If you also watch the movie Easter Parade all year round like me, then you are probably pretty excited that Easter is around the corner. Now that I have a kiddo, it’s extra fun to do holidays and find little projects that Lola and I can do together.

Using air-dry clay is an awesome way to create something special (and there’s very little mess involved, which is also nice).

You can make this easy marbled air-dry clay project to create decorations to hang up throughout the house (hang single ones like ornaments or string some together for a garland!), but I thought it would be fun to personalize the egg shapes so they can be Easter basket tags instead.

And, air-dry clay is so easy to work with that you can marble it very easily, and just like our popular Marbled Clay Ring Dish project, it turns out really pretty in just a few minutes. Plus dry time. Haha.

air dry clay supplies

Supplies:
-air-dry clay (you can get bigger single-color packs like this or multi-color packs)
-wax paper or silicone mat for rolling out clay
rolling pin (non-stick, like a silicone one)
egg shaped cookie cutter (or other Easter shape like this Peeps one)
letter stamp set
-straw to make hole
-twine or ribbon to tie the tag
-fine sandpaper to smooth edges (optional)

First, set up your stamp set (with the name you want to stamp) so it’s ready to go.

Then, grab two or three pieces of the colors of air-dry clay that you want to marble. You can either cut out one at a time or roll a larger slab and then cut several from the bigger piece.

Roll out short clay “snakes” with each color and then twist them together in one strand. Lay the strand down on your rolling surface and use the rolling pin to flatten out the clay.

If you like that pattern of marbling, go ahead and cut out your shape with your cookie cutter, or you can roll it into a few snakes again, re-twist it, and see if you like that marbling better before cutting.

Once your shape is cut, pull away the excess and use your straw to poke a hole in the top to tie the string or ribbon onto.

Press your name stamp into the clay (I love those clear sets because you can see exactly where you are placing it) and allow the clay to fully dry.

name stamped onto air dry clay egg

If you have a few rough edges, you can use a fine sandpaper when it’s dry to smooth them out. Otherwise, your tag is ready to use!

air dry clay name tags shaped like marbled eggs

Other ideas for decorating the tags:

  • Make solid color tags and then decorate them further with paint (or puff paint).
  • Leave them unstamped until they dry and then stamp the name on with ink.
  • Use straws or other stamps/objects to create dots or markings while the clay is still soft.

How cute are those?! They come together really quickly, and my 4-year-old had a lot of fun marbling her colors and using the egg cutter to cut them out (we are going to make a garland with hers).

Hope this name tag idea gives you a fun craft to do this Easter season! xo. Laura

Spring Garland DIY Idea – Yarn Carrots https://abeautifulmess.com/spring-garland-diy-idea-yarn-carrots/ https://abeautifulmess.com/spring-garland-diy-idea-yarn-carrots/#comments Fri, 25 Mar 2022 12:44:00 +0000 https://abeautifulmess.com/?p=86046 I feel I have to admit that I have not been the best about decorating for spring or Easter. I get super stoked for autumn and the holiday season (Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas), but in the spring, I just kind of forget about seasonal decorating even though I really enjoy it.

So, I’m making an effort. Here is a spring garland DIY I made recently with yarn carrots. This was partially inspired by Laura’s yarn pumpkin garland, which I think is super cute. You can consider this the spring-themed companion.

Carrot yarn garland hanging on green fireplace
Closeup of carrot yarn garland

This DIY is basically how to make carrots from foam cones, yarn, and felt. This is a good project if you enjoy hot glue guns—which is when I know I’m crafting.

Once you have the carrots made, you can simply add them to yarn or even layer with other garlands you might already have.

orange yarn, green felt, styrofoam cones, and glue gun.

Supplies:
foam cones
orange paint and brush

green felt
-fabric scissors
hot glue gun and glue sticks

steps to make carrot yarn garland

Step One: Paint the foam cones orange. This is so the white foam won’t peek through the yarn.

Step Two: Wrap the (dry) painted cones in orange yarn using hot glue as the adhesive. I think this is fairly straightforward, but you can see me do this in the video above if needed.

Step Three: Create the carrot tops from green felt.

Step Four: Attach the tops with hot glue. Now you can hang these carrots to a garland, wreath, or however you’d like to decorate with them.

closeup of yarn carrot

You can keep your garland super simple of layer it with other garlands. Read this post on how to transform your Christmas garland for tips on layering garland to make them feel more full and visually pleasing.

I layered my yarn carrot garland with a black and white Easter egg garland I already had. I like the contrast of the colors together.

Personally, I love a garland on our fireplace mantel. I hang it using just a few small nails. But, if you need a damage free option, I’d recommend using Command Strips.

You could also hang a seasonal garland on a piano, doorway, open shelf, or above your bed.

Thanks for letting me share my spring garland DIY idea with you. I love how it looks hanging on our mantel this month, and it makes me even more excited for the season.

And in case you are curious, the portrait above my mantle is vintage. It’s actually a family heirloom—a portrait of my great-grandfather, Rafael Vegas. xo. Emma

Cute Easter Craft Ideas https://abeautifulmess.com/our-easter-favorites/ https://abeautifulmess.com/our-easter-favorites/#comments Wed, 24 Mar 2021 13:00:46 +0000 http://abeautifulmess.com/?p=27529 Pastel colors, dunking eggs into colorful dye, and eating Peeps … wait a minute—I’m into everything I just mentioned except Peeps. Haha.

Today’s post is all about cute Easter craft ideas, and I’ve included a few dessert ideas (like these pink bunny pancakes) as well.

First on the list? This easy-to-make pom pom wreath. Those ears are so darn cute. ?

If you’re looking for a different way to decorate eggs this year (instead of using dye), we designed a set of printables that kiddos are sure to love.

Speaking of dyeing eggs … our friend Rachel shared this amazing Easter egg tutorial for making your own plant-based dyes (with items you probably have in your kitchen right now).

I really love the idea of “going all out” this year and setting up a brunch display like this. I feel like we all deserve a little fancy time at home, you know?

This cute matchbox bunny can be whipped up in no time. Put it (and lots of candy) in an Easter basket to make the cutest gift!

Candy for the kids and jello shots for the adults? Sounds like a good mix to me.

You could make a set of these gradient egg cups. Add some small succulents to them to make a centerpiece or show off those dyed Easter eggs. 🙂

Sunday brunch should include overnight cinnamon rolls and baked blueberry oatmeal anytime of the year.

Or try Emma’s carrot-shaped pastries that you can fill with your favorite fillings!

Speaking of brunching at home, these place card holders look like Peeps, but they are actually made out of clay. Click here to make a set of your own! We’ll take any excuse to eat cake—especially if it’s a speckled Easter egg cake filled with strawberries.

Look at this cutie! We can’t think of a better way to create Easter memories than this halfway homemade plush bunny DIY.

This egg display doubles as Easter and spring decor (hello, pun).

I love receiving little homemade treats like this. All you have to do is make some homemade cookie butter (here’s the recipe) and put it in a pretty jar for a friend to enjoy.

Mmmm … bagels. These are the perfect mix of sweet and savory. And they’re pink!

I’ve realized there’s nothing cuter than turning everyday items into bunnies. Haha! These mandarins are no exception.

If you’re craving something savory for breakfast, Emma’s rosemary mushroom hashbrown casserole is sooo good, and the leftovers are even better.

Style your home (or mantle!) with this cute Spring Garland DIY!

If you’re like me and love having fresh flowers around the house, you could display in a floating arrangement instead of using a vase— perfect for a table centerpiece.

Happy Easter (and spring—finally!) -Jacki

Personalized Spring Cookie Butter Gift! https://abeautifulmess.com/personalized-spring-cookie-butter-gift/ https://abeautifulmess.com/personalized-spring-cookie-butter-gift/#respond Tue, 16 Mar 2021 13:30:48 +0000 https://abeautifulmess.com/?p=69021 Of all the things you can give someone in a little bag to make them smile, can we all agree that cookie butter is at the top of that list?! We’ve made cookie butters a few times here at the blog, but this time we are partnering with one of our favorite craft brands, Brother, to show you a really fun way to personalize some spring-themed cookie butter to gift to someone special!

Using their P-touch Embellish ELITE and ScanNCut DX electronic cutting machine we’ve added some easy custom embellishments to our cookie butter jar that make a simple present simply adorable, and they are the perfect tool for beginner, intermediate, or experienced crafters! I know we aren’t the only ones who have found solace and relaxation in crafting from home during the last crazy year, and March is National Craft Month, so it’s the perfect time to hone your crafting skills while hanging out at home. Studies have actually shown that crafting can help reduce anxiety, and I think we could all use a little bit of that as we hit the year mark of the pandemic … let’s create something cute!

Supplies:
P-touch Embellish ELITE
ScanNCut DX electronic cutting machine
-white, gold, pink vinyl
-white ribbon with gold ink
small clear jars for cookie butter
flower template (right click to download)
-sugar cookie butter with spring-colored sprinkles

First, we’ll cut our flowers to decorate our jars. Download the flower template and open it in the Brother CanvasWorkspace program. I have two sizes of flowers on the sheet as well as the middles for the flowers. When I was cutting the white or coral flowers, I would select and erase the middles so they wouldn’t be cut, and then when I was preparing to cut the middles in the gold vinyl, I selected and erased the flower shapes so only the middles would remain. You can also move the shapes you are about to cut up to the top of your virtual mat so that you just have to put a small amount of vinyl at the top of your real mat and you won’t waste any unnecessary vinyl.

You can also load the vinyl onto your mat at this point. You can either cut a sheet to cover the whole page and then save any unused portions for another time or you can see how many squares your design covers and then cut your vinyl to cover those amount of squares on your corresponding mat grid. Place the mat aside for a moment.Once you have the shapes you are about to cut positioned at the top of your mat, you can go up to “File” and then choose “Export/Transfer FCM File” to send the file to your ScanNCut Machine. On the home screen of your cutter, you’ll go to “Retrieve Data” to bring up the file you just exported, and your design will appear on your machine screen and you can select the blue “OK” button. On the next screen, press the “please select” button and choose the “cut” option since we are going to cut out a shape. Since are cutting vinyl, we only want to cut through the vinyl layer and not through the paper layer underneath the vinyl, so you want to select the little wrench icon on your screen to scroll down and make sure the “half cut” option is toggled in the “on” mode. Use the mat button on the front of your machine to load your mat and then you can press the “start” button!Once your design is cut, press the mat button again to unload the mat and peel off the negative unnecessary vinyl on your design to leave just your needed shapes behind.

Use some of your transfer tape and rub it over your design so you can gently peel it off and lift up your vinyl shapes so they can be transferred to decorate your jar! If you’re doing two colors of flowers, then peel off your cut layer of vinyl, and add a new piece in your second color and repeat the cut and transfer process. If you have any issues with your vinyl not sticking to your transfer tape (or if you don’t have any), you can use your fingernails or the small spatula tool that comes with the machine and gently peel them up yourself and stick them on like a sticker.

Once you’ve cut and added all your flowers, repeat the process with the middle of your flowers. Make your cookie butter, add in some spring colored sprinkles, and spoon your cookie butter into your jars.

Our last step is to add a customized ribbon to tie around the jar! Use your Brother P-touch Design and Print app on your phone to create a custom label that you can print directly from your P-touch Embellish Elite. I chose a white ribbon with gold lettering and added “Cookie Butter!” and a daisy next to it to tie the ribbon into the design of the jar. You can customize your label with different colors and widths of ribbon, choose from their selection of fonts and a wide range of icons to make your creation even more customized to your needs—so cool! The machine also prints adhesive label tape as well, so you can also do all your organizing projects with it!

Now that my ribbon is tied onto my cookie butter, it’s ready to deliver to one very lucky recipient! I love to eat cookie butter with fruit (like strawberries) or pretzels, so you can always gift something like that along with your cookie butter to complete the set. Your lucky gift getter is going to be thrilled with it and be super impressed with your custom design thought that made the gift extra special. I can totally see doing this type of thing to decorate favors for a wedding/baby shower or a party to send your guests home with something to remember you by. We are all for making fun and custom crafts from the comfort of our own home and I hope this helps inspire some custom gifts to give in your future! xo. Laura

Bunny Pom Pom Wreath DIY https://abeautifulmess.com/bunny-pom-pom-wreath-diy/ https://abeautifulmess.com/bunny-pom-pom-wreath-diy/#comments Mon, 15 Apr 2019 13:03:26 +0000 http://abeautifulmess.com/?p=45038 I thought I had my stash of Easter decorations all set for the year until I was browsing around a craft store and saw a little pom pom bunny ear wreath and thought, “Uh oh … that’s pretty cute!”

The one I saw at the store was rather small and I like to do bigger wreaths on my front door, so I decided to DIY my own version to add a little more Easter flair to the front porch. Here’s what I did!

Supplies:
wire wreath frame (in whatever size you want!)
thicker white or cream yarn (I used 3 packs to make mine)
large pom pom maker
-white scrap fabric
hot glue gun
pink and white felt
floral wire (or other thin wire)

First, I cut several long 3″ wide strips of white scrap fabric and wrapped my wreath frame with the fabric to give me a base to glue my pom poms onto (just use the hot glue to attach strips of fabric together).
Then, I cut two long white ears out of felt and two smaller pink centers. It’s basically a daisy-petal shape with the bottom cut off—no need to be perfect!

I glued some wire to the pink centers so the ears would stand up and then glued the centers to the white ears, sandwiching the wire between them.

Next, I glued the ears to the top of the frame.
I made a punch of pom poms with my pom pom maker (totally worth having those makers if you like to make pom poms for things) in two shades of white for a little visual variety.

Once I had a pile of poms, I glued them onto my frame until the wreath and the base of my bunny ears were covered.

For hanging (if you don’t already have a wreath hanger on your door), you can simply tie a string or wire around the wreath between the two ears and make a loop to hang—the pom poms will hide the yarn/wire beneath them.

Just the cutest! I love things that are fun and whimsical that grownups and little ones can enjoy without it feeling too childish, and this project totally fits the bill for me.

Now, I just have to finish Lola’s Easter basket haul and I guess we’ll be all set! xo. Laura

Mandarin Easter Bunny Craft For Kids https://abeautifulmess.com/mandarin-easter-bunny-craft-for-kids/ https://abeautifulmess.com/mandarin-easter-bunny-craft-for-kids/#comments Thu, 11 Apr 2019 13:43:48 +0000 http://abeautifulmess.com/?p=44649 I have always loved Easter ever since I was little. I have such fond memories of the giant table at my grandma’s that we would sit at with my extended family after church to have a huge brunch together and we would get to sit at the “kids’ table,” which was usually just one end of the big table where they put all the cousins together.

I thought this year would be a fun time to make an edible Easter decoration for a kids’ table and try it out on our toddler to see if she approves. Since I love seeing all the different animals that people make with fruits and veggies, we partnered with Wonderful Halos to make a bunny made from a mandarin.

I thought it would be the perfect addition to a kids’ table since they are sweet, seedless, and easy to peel. And they are packed with vitamin C, so it would be a good balance for whatever other treats the kids get in their baskets that morning.

Supplies:
Wonderful Halos mandarins
-toothpicks (or wooden coffee stirring sticks or popsicle sticks for younger kids)
-3″ pieces of thin wire (optional)
-hot glue gun
-small pink and white pom poms
-white embroidery thread
-pink and white felt
-fabric scissors

Start by cutting out your bunny ears from your felt. I cut white petal shapes (pretend you’re cutting a daisy petal and it should look about right) that was about 3″ tall and a pink smaller petal to be the inside of the ear. You’ll need two of each color for each bunny.

Now, for the ears you can either use toothpicks or wire to attach your ears to the mandarin, but if you want to bend your ears around, you’ll want to use the wire.

Use your hot glue to attach your toothpick or wire to the underside of the pink felt and let at least 1″ of the toothpick/wire hang off the bottom of the ear.

Glue the pink ear to the larger white ear and you should have one complete ear with the toothpick/wire sandwiched between the layers and hanging out the bottom. Repeat to assemble all your ears.

For the nose and whiskers, cut a long piece of embroidery thread and fold it over twice so you have four strands the same length. Cut the ends and tie the strands to a toothpick about 1/4″ away from the edge. Hot glue a pink pom pom onto the end of the toothpick and insert your toothpick into the front of your mandarin. Trim your whiskers as needed.

If you want a tail as well, you can either repeat the process of gluing a white pom pom onto the end of a toothpick and inserting it into the back of the mandarin, or, if your nose/whisker toothpick is too long and comes through the back side of the mandarin, you can simply glue the white pom pom on the part that is sticking out the back. Once you have your ears, nose, and tail, your little bunnies are done!

How adorable! When it comes time to eat, just pull out the bunny pieces, peel, and eat! Now, as a side note, if your kid is a little too young for you to feel comfortable with a piece of wire or toothpick within their reach, then you can still do the same thing but use a wooden coffee stirring stick or popsicle stick instead to replace the toothpick/wire as those sticks are wider and the edges are rounded rather than pointed. You could also serve these with Emma’s Carrot-Shaped Pastries and if you want to give some as a kid gift for a class or friends, try my Printable Healthy Snack Tag For Kids!

It may be a tiny bit harder to push those into the mandarin, but should still work just the same. I know I would be delighted as a kid to see one of these on my childhood Easter table, so I hope these delight your little ones too! xo. Laura
